We live in a society that seems to say that nothing is forever. If something doesn't work, throw it away. Sometimes that happens with relationships, too. Due to society's attitude, it isn't surprising that making a commitment can be rather scary. But you only have to act one day at a time.
Whether you choose to commit your life to another person in marriage — or to live and work as a sister, brother or priest — you will need to find ways to keep renewing your commitment. Being part of a community helps keep things in perspective — sharing struggles, joys and successes. They help us believe in forever — one day at a time.
